The Velvet Pastures Wind Ensemble is made up of UNH Music alumni and other seacoast area professional musicians. It is dedicated to performing serious wind music at the highest level. The ensemble was founded during the pandemic at James and Lou Ann Griswold’s elk farm, Velvet Pastures, in Lee, NH. The first meeting was an open-air reading session dedicated to Igor Stravinsky’s Octet. This session led to an all-Stravinsky debut concert at the University of New Hampshire in the Fall of 2021. The ensemble has further performed the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, John Adams, Robert Kurka, Erika Svanoe, Paul Hindemith, and Kurt Weill.
