  • Johnson Theatre, Paul Creative Arts Center 30 Academic Way Durham, NH, 03824 United States (map)

The program will begin with Robert Kurka’s The Good Soldier Schweik Suite (1956) followed by Erika Svanoe’s Steampunk Scenes (2015). The second half will be comprised of German music from Paul Hindemith, Septet (1948), and Kurt Weill, Little Threepenny Music (1929). Join us for a jazz, science fiction, literature, and opera inspired evening!

The Velvet Pastures Wind Ensemble is made up of UNH Music alumni and other seacoast area professional musicians. It is dedicated to performing serious wind music at the highest level. The ensemble was founded during the pandemic at a nearby elk farm in Lee, NH from where it draws its name. The first meeting was an open-air reading session dedicated to Stravinsky’s Octet. This session led to an all-Stravinsky debut concert at the University of New Hampshire in the Fall of 2021. The ensemble has further performed the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and John Adams.

The program will also be live-streamed here: https://youtu.be/F6YAyzK8r0A
