ASO — The Discovery Concert

  • Thayer's Center for the Arts 745 Washington Street Braintree, MA, 02184 United States (map)

*A shorter concert designed for most ages*

Join ASO's musicians led by Maestro Jin Kim as we perform some of the most gorgeous melodies in classical music.

ASO's musicians will play: "Morning Mood," "Anitra's Dance," "In the Hall of the Mountain King," and "Solveig's Song," with short interludes in between from local actors reading from Ibsen's play, which inspired the music. The concert also includes fun discussion by Maestro Kim about the instruments in the orchestra and the music.

Actors from Curtain Call Theatre will join ASO to provide short narration / excerpts from Ibsen's play, on which the music was based.

Following that, enjoy spotlight performances from some of the areas most talented teens.

Grieg's music is based on the story written by Ibsen, which follows a charming but lazy and arrogant young man who leaves home to seek his fortune. Confident of success, he has one disastrous adventure after another, until finally learning what truly matters in life and returning home. Grieg uses various instruments of the orchestra to represent the lands Peer visited.

Come early to examine instruments in our lobby as part of the instrument showcase.

This concert is perfect for families and individuals of most ages, but is not designed for children under the age of 8.

Audiences are invited to discover, share, and connect, using music as a bridge across generations.
